Douglas G. Rohde, President and CEO
Mr. Rohde’s vision began in 2001 upon the purchase of the Siren, Wisconsin property and Village concept. Expanding upon this, he and his managing partner Joel Cairy founded Lodge Hotels & Resorts, currently known as LHR Hospitality Management and designed and developed The Lodge at Brainerd Lakes in Baxter, MN. Mr. Rohde primarily oversees the Operations and Development of each property.
Prior to operating his own hotel management and development company, he was a VP at the North Central Region for Sunstone Hotel Properties, a company with 70 hotels that carried 13 different brands. He also served as General Manager, Director of Sales and Marketing and Food & Beverage Manager at various properties for Larken Hotels, Hilton Hotels Corporation and Marriott Hotels Corporations.
Mr. Rohde earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of Wisconsin, Stout. He has also served on several boards throughout the hospitality industry and is very involved in tourism legislation throughout Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Joel C. Cairy, Executive Vice President and COO
Mr. Cairy joined LHR in May 2004 as a Managing Partner, focusing on Sales, Marketing and Development. He worked with managing partner Doug Rohde to design and develop The Lodge at Brainerd Lakes.
He previously served as the Director of Hotel Administration and Corporate Travel at Northwest Airlines Worldwide, where he achieved over $11 million in hotel contract cost savings for the company. He has held Director of Sales and Marketing positions with Holiday Inn, where his team was responsible for $12 million in sales; with Larken Hotels, where he increased a hotel's average daily rate by $16 in one year; with Hyatt, Best Western; and in the private club sector.
Mr. Cairy earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Occupational Safety from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville. He has also served on several boards throughout the hospitality industry and is very involved in tourism legislation in Minnesota.
Mike Tozier, Chief Financial Officer
After serving as an independent financial consultant, Mr. Tozier joined LHR on a permanent basis in November 2008 as the Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Controller. He oversees the accounting and payroll functions for five hotels, in addition to the corporate offices, which consists of $83 million in hotel assets and over $23 million in annual revenue. He also oversees the management of over 480 employees.
Mr. Tozier is a Certified Public Accountant, a private business owner in the golf course industry and an industry consultant. He has over seventeen years of banking experience, most recently serving as the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for the Northern Region Banks of the Marquette Financials Company, a privately held company consisting of $5.9 billion in total assets and managing over $1 billion in investments. In addition, he currently holds the position of Director of the Minnesota Golf Course Owners Association and is a member of the Wisconsin and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Mr. Tozier attended the University of Wisconsin in Green Bay, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting.
Doug Karle, Vice President of Operations
Mr. Karle joined LHR in December 2006 as General Manager at one of our full-service properties. Since then, he has been promoted to other positions and currently serves as Vice President of Operations at the corporate level.
Before joining LHR, Mr. Karle spent more than ten years in the hotel industry, working specifically with Embassy Suites and Holiday Inns. During his tenure with Holiday Inns, he increased service and quality scores significantly, which made his hotel one of the Top 60 Best Holiday Inns. Under his leadership, the hotel implemented excellent cost and labor controls, which resulted in a Gross Operating Profit that was 21% higher than the budget.
He volunteers his time in numerous capacities throughout his community as well as communities in which we operate. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Lodging Association, Co-founded the Otsego Jamfest and volunteers with The White Bear Lake Historical Society, Veterans Organizations and others.
Mr. Karle attended the University of Minnesota and holds a degree in Geography with an emphasis in Urban Planning.
Mark Zovic, Director of Food and Beverage
Mr. Zovic joined LHR in November 2009 as the Director of Food and Beverage Operations. Mr. Zovic is a results-oriented, dedicated Professional with solid experience establishing and overseeing hotel operations while achieving profitability through revenue generation, cost control, guest satisfaction and staff development.
He has held the position of Vice President of Operations for the Lanting Hotel Group and Larken, Inc. specializing in the renovation and operation of financially distressed hotels. He also has a niche for operating specialty boutique properties having served as General Manager of properties such as The Big EZ Lodge in Big Sky, MT, winner of the 2008 Conde Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence and the South Coast Winery Resort and Spa in Temecula, CA.
Mr. Zovic attended the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
Steve Rohde, Director Regional Operations / Asset Transition
Mr. Rohde has been with LHR since its inception in 2001 as an ownership partner in The Lodge at Crooked Lake and has served as its General Manager since 2003. With over 15 years of hospitality experiences he has held positions in Food & Beverage, Guest Services, Marketing and Accounting with Hilton, Holiday Inn and Marriott.
He holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
Melia E. Nagel, Executive Assistant / Human Resources
Ms. Nagel joined LHR in March 2006. She brought with her more than ten years of experience at the hotel property and corporate meeting planning level. She has worked in the Sales and Catering departments of Hilton and of luxury, independent hotels, where she was responsible for the high-profile political groups and for four of the hotel's Top Ten accounts. She also gained a big-picture understanding of the hotel industry by spending time in every department at a mountain resort in Colorado.
Ms. Nagel earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aviation Business Administration from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona.
